Why is the Mediterranean Diet good for?

November 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

The idea I had in mind when I started writing my book “Your Heart Needs the Mediterranean Diet” was to write about how healthy the Mediterranean diet is; being born and raised in Spain, I was quite familiar with it so, why not tell the world about some of its many benefits? However, as I was digging into scientific studies for my writing, it dawned on me for the first time that the Mediterranean diet is almost the perfect diet (I was not aware this diet was that healthy during my years in Spain; I just followed it because that was the way everybody ate) and it can prevent or in many cases reverse many health conditions. So, I end up with a dilema in my hands because trying to cover all the benefits the Mediterranean diet contributes to our well being would have been not only a daunting task but it could also have been very confusing for the reader. I, personally, don’t care too much for books where the author includes so much information that by the time I get to the last page, I remember very few concepts I can apply to my daily life.

Because of that, I decided to concentrate my book in just one aspect of this diet. Of course, the next question was: which one? It looked as if theMediterranean diet was a panacea and could be used for almost anything. Finally I decided to concentrate the book on heart disease. Why heart disease and no cancer, or diabetes? Because so far, heart disease is the number one killer in our society, so I thought it will be a good place to start.

In my book I explain the mechanisms of how the Mediterranean diet and its way of life can prevent heart disease. But the truth of the mater is that if you follow those guidelines, it will help you prevent many of the chronic diseases that plague us now.

Would you like to follow a Mediterranean lifestyle?

Send me a note and I’ll get you started.
