Mediterranean Diet: Prevention is Better than Cure

February 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hello everyone,

One thing we all want during our life is to be healthy. But instead of leaving it to fate, why don’t we do our share and take matters in our hands? Make a note!

Our subject today is risk factors. Are you aware that there are some risk factors for the heart that cannot be modified such as age, sex, and genes? And that after 65 years of age, time and ageing cause the arteries to suffer some damage although you may not feel anything?

Regarding sex, cardiovascular disease in women has some characteristics that differ from those in men. For example, it usually appears 10 years later in women than in men.

Genes can influence the way we get sick. The same way we inherit the color of our hair or our eyes from our parents and grandparents, we also inherit a disposition to have high blood pressure or to have high levels of cholesterol.

Solution: Prevention
You have to make those habits that can lower your risk, maintain you healthy and counteract your unfriendly genes as well as the inexorable passing of time, a way of living. Eat healthy, don’t smoke, be physically active and have regular physical checkups. I know it may sound easier than doing it, but give it a try. The reward will be tremendous as you get older.

Have a very healthy and happy day.
